GLENWOOD SPRINGS – The CMC ArtShare Gallery will present a free artist’s reception Dec. 13 for the exhibit “Ocular Patterns,” which features the work of abstract expressionist Staci Dickerson.

Dickerson, who is a staff member at Carbondale Arts, has been a resident of Carbondale and the Roaring Fork Valley for more than 40 years. She began her journey as an artist in the late ’90s by taking a few classes at Colorado Mountain College. She continued studying art at the Naropa University in Boulder, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual art in 2011.

"Unknownig Beauty" by Staci Dickerson

Staci Dickerson’s “Unknowing Beauty,” oil, 18 by 24 inches, is one of the works featured at a free reception for the artist’s “Ocular Patterns” exhibit.

The title of her new exhibit, “Ocular Patterns,” describes the involuntary movements of the artist’s eye as she creates her abstract paintings. She invites those viewing her work “to thoughtfully experience and respond to the painting; to just notice what the eye notices … and to experience their own ‘ocular patterns.’”

Dickerson shows her work frequently in local and regional art shows, where she has received numerous awards. She received the People’s Choice award at the Carbondale Arts Valley Visual Art Show in 2006, 2012 and 2017. Her work is currently on display at the Colorado State Capitol through her affiliation with the Carbondale Creative District and Colorado Creative Industries.

The reception will be held 6-8 p.m. Dec. 13 at the CMC ArtShare Gallery at Morgridge Commons, 815 Cooper Ave., 2nd floor, Glenwood Springs. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and enjoy light refreshments.

The exhibit is on display at the gallery now through Jan. 19, 2020. Visit CMC ArtShare Gallery for more information.
