From time to time over the years, Colorado Mountain College has held some noncredit classes for residents in Parachute and Battlement Mesa, even though we didn’t have a physical home in either of the two communities.
That may change slightly, as we’ve leased the former Grand Valley Educational Career Center in Parachute from School District 16 and have scheduled several classes for the facility this fall. And we want to hear what additional classes and programs that residents, businesses and community leaders in Parachute and Battlement Mesa would like Colorado Mountain College to offer.
Concurrent enrollment (or dual-credit) college classes for high school students and some noncredit, energy industry training classes were held at the center over the past few years, but the school district closed the building at the end of school this year due to budget cuts. This gave Colorado Mountain College the opportunity to lease the building and start thinking about what additional educational opportunities we could present in the community. RIFLE – Colorado Mountain College and Williams are partnering in a program to train field technicians who operate natural gas processing equipment. Williams is providing models of the equipment and instructors for a course entitled Process Technology-Field Operator, which will be offered at the college’s campus in Rifle fall semester. CMC class features cows, calves, ranch visits

Still needed: approval of accrediting body, CCHE
BRECKENRIDGE – In front of an enthusiastic gathering in the auditorium of Colorado Mountain College’s newest building, today Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter signed Senate Bill 10-101 in Breckenridge. The bill permits the comprehensive community college to offer up to five bachelor’s degrees.

Graduates could continue education overseas
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – Resort management graduates from Colorado Mountain College may soon be able to continue their hospitality education overseas, after a “very positive” two-day visit by that school’s president, according to the professor who arranged the visit.
