A pilot program at Colorado Mountain College in Rifle last fall attracted nearly 100 baby boomers to a dozen classes — and this spring has led the college to add more classes in Rifle and debut others in Glenwood Springs and Aspen.

“They’re nice courses for old guys like me,” said Bob Kelley of Glenwood Springs, a retired U.S. Forest Service and Colorado Mountain College employee who still teaches biology at the Rifle campus. He took part in an Encore! writing class last fall and plans to take several more classes this spring.

CMC Olympians Win Another Silver

Ed. Note: The US Nordic Combined Team won its first-ever Olympic medal on Tuesday. Two of the four team members have taken classes at Colorado Mountain College: Johnny Spillane and Bill Demong. The following is reprinted from Steamboat Today:

Whistler, British Columbia — The U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team, led by two Steamboat Springs natives and an adopted New Yorker, took silver today in the team event, further defining this squad as the most successful Nordic combined group in American history.

International Film Series at Colorado Mountain College

Leadville – The Spanish film “Lovers of the Arctic Circle” (Los amantes del círculo polar) kicked off the Colorado Mountain College Timberline Campus International Film Series course Feb. 19. The 1998 film was directed by Julió Medém. It was be the first of eight original-language films with English subtitles to be shown this spring.
