Colorado Mountain College Aspen will present “ABOUT FACE: Portraiture for the 21st Century,” an interactive art exhibit and reception featuring Benjamin Timpson and his large-scale portrait photography, at the campus’s art gallery.
The opening reception has been rescheduled because of the Lake Christine fire. Originally set for July 5, the event will instead be held on Thursday, July 26. It will run from 4 to 7 p.m., with an artist’s talk at 6 p.m. The event is free, and the public – bring smartphones! – is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Timpson, the studio coordinator for photography and new media at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass Village, created the exhibition’s photographs using a large-format camera he built. The actual negatives from the camera are displayed at CMC Aspen’s gallery, and viewers are asked to adjust the settings on their smartphones to interact with Timpson’s portraiture.
Colorado Mountain College Aspen is at 0255 Sage Way, Aspen Business Center, Aspen. Timpson’s large-scale negative and positive images are also on view throughout the building.
“ABOUT FACE” is sponsored by CMC ArtShare and the CMC Foundation. For more information, please contact CMC Aspen at 925-7740 or coloradomtn.edu. Call the campus for gallery hours before visiting, as classes are often scheduled in that space.
