STARS Interns Chaz Tyler and Jaila Benjamin

Roaring Fork Campus student Chaz Tyler and fellow STARS intern Jaila Benjamin won awards for their research posters at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus

Roaring Fork Campus student Charles (Chaz) Tyler participated as an intern last summer in the STARS Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo. He was paired with a mentor, Dr. Benjamin Mullin, to learn about the developing brain of a child and how it is affected by inadequate sleep and irregular sleeping patterns.

Tyler’s internship was an introduction into scientific research. He assisted with a study seeking to find the possible correlation between emotional and cognitive function with sleep.

Tyler’s research poster (shown) won an award for “Best in Show” among all presentations by fellow interns. Tyler says, “This was a truly amazing experience and I hope to do this internship again this summer.”

CMC students interested in such opportunities are encouraged to meet with their advisors to discover what might be available in their areas of study.
