Closing Days

With so many ski areas near our campuses closing for the season this weekend, we thought we would share scenes from one wacky closing day event, The Slush Cup, captured at Keystone’s recent closing day.  The words and images here originally appeared in CMC student Ali Gringas blog, See What I See, and shared the view as seen on Keystone’s Facebook Slush Cup photo album page.  All photos by Keystone’s Epic Mix manager Larry Dutton.

The last day to slide on boards and planks in Aspen, Steamboat and Vail will be this weekend. For more closing day fun, check out Steamboat’s 32nd annual Cardboard Classic (4/14) & Splashdown Pond Skim (4/15),  Snowmass’s Schneetag, which includes a pond skim event in which participants pilot homemade cardboard crafts down a ski run and attempt to shoot across a 100-ft pond (4/14), Copper’s Sunsation Floating Rail Jam (4/15), and the World Pond Skimming Championships (4/15) at Vail.  Breck closes down the weekend with the 16th annual Imperial Challenge, a 6.2 mile mountain bike ride from town to the ski area, followed by a 2,500 foot climb to the summit – and 2500 foot descent, of Peak 8. Ski Cooper and Sunlight have already closed for the season.

Keystone Slush Cup

This weekend was closing weekend at one of my very favorite resorts, and where I spent 80% of my season, Keystone. It was a great season there considering the snow conditions, and I can’t wait for next season already. (Although I will say that they are going to have an AWESOME mountain bike season!)

Keystone doesn’t just decide to close… they go out with a bang… er, splash. Here are some pictures of this weekend’s Slush Cup. All pictures are courteous of Keystone’s Facebook page, and all photos were taken by Keystone’s EpicMix Manager, Larry Hutton.
